American in Ireland
I am decoding Ireland for fellow Yanks—serving up the craic from the Emerald Isle — with a wink and a pint. It’s been quite an American expat journey in Dublin. Because my time here has been filled with memorable experiences, I have many stories to tell about living in Dublin as an American.
I was born in Washington, D.C.. After that, I was raised in Northern Virginia and Westchester County, NY. Subsequently, along with Maria, my wife of four decades, we raised our four children in Chicago and New York.
Living here was made much easier because I’m a U.S. and E.U. dual-citizen. Therefore, even though Maria is a U.S. citizen she qualified for a Stamp 4 Irish Residency Permit. Zeke is a dog. In other words, he is not sure where we are but is happy to have joined us here. Together, we are on our American expat journey in Dublin.
My Residency as a U.S. Expat in Dublin
One of the best parts of living in Dublin as an American is experiencing the Irish culture. For instance there is traditional music to enjoy, local festivals to attend. In addition, there are deep dives into Irish history on tours and during the Dublin History Festival. On the other hand, it’s not all fiddles and penny-whistles, there is the modern Ireland of rock and roll, rugby and road trips.
I love recounting my American expat journey in this beautiful city because I can share the wonders of Ireland with you. Above all, whether it’s history or culture, I am eager to help you explore this incredible country.
My journey as an American expat in Dublin
Most importantly, my journey has been unforgettable and, as a result, I enjoy sharing my experiences on Dublin Yanks. I certainly intend to explore more of Ireland and consequently to continue learn more.
